Chai Thoughts

Someone remind me the next time I try to have a Chai Latte at 9:30 p.m. that the result will be I'll never fall asleep! Seriously!! Anyway, since I'm awake ... still ... at 4 o'clock in the morning ... with about a thousand thoughts running through my head, I guess I ought to be able to put something down ...
I will say that I've been trying really hard this past week to get back in to my writing groove. And, when I say my writing groove, I don't so much mean my regular writing feature stories type groove - deadlines get me plenty in that groove - I mean more my personal, in touch with my inner self, creative writing groove. There's a certain place I have to be mentally to make much progress there, and when I get out of that place, it can take me a little while to get back. I'm not saying I have the stereotypical crazy, artistic temperament because I don't, but ...
I do seem to have an interesting connection to about 3:30 a.m. It's weird, but I often wake up at that time for a few moments, no matter what time I went to bed. Sometimes something random will happen, like the smoke detector will beep or the phone will ring or the cat will jump or I'll wake up from a dream. Then sometimes, it will seem random, but I'll just - boom - be wide awake. I haven't found any connection yet so surmise what you will ...
Speaking of dreams, though, I had one ripe with symbolism the other night. Well, I have a lot of them, but this one I don't mind sharing: I am standing with thousands and thousands of jewels all around me in the form of necklaces, bracelets, etc. There are so many that they are up to my ankles. While I am sorting through them looking for the “real" diamonds, Rhett Butler walks up, sweeps me off my feet, and carries me to his train, where for the duration of the train ride, he tries to win me over. I remember enjoying it but being a little scared and not quite giving in. There was no real ending because, you guessed it - it was 3:30 a.m. and I woke up.

I often wake up around that time. I thought it was spooky, and called it the bewitching hour. I then realized most times is was due to my little ding dong dog going into the kitchen grabbing a few bits of dog food then coming back into the bedroon and proceding to crunch them right next to the bed.

For a long time, I had a weird tendency to wake up at exactly 3:15 a.m. I have no idea why...and then it stopped.

One night recently, I woke up at about that time, and there was my cat Flinky, who normally sleeps next to me, sitting up and staring at me intently, head very close to my face -- she looked like she was about to start an interrogation.

I too have strange dreams...often they don't make sense, but seem extremely vivid. Weird how you remember them. Normally, I tell no one about them but my journal.

A logical explanation certainly would be Snickers because she sleeps with me, but 95 percent of the time she's out cold when I wake up. Then, because me moving around wakes her, she's like, "Come on, already, Caroline. Aren't you used to the ghosts visiting yet?" ;)

As far as dreams, I get some whoppers. And, I make a real effort to remember them because sometimes they have an important message for me.
Some I keep to myself, some I tell friends. The way I figure it, there's a lot worse things a woman could dream about than Rhett Butler.
~ Just hand me a glass of lemonade and plop this Southern girl down at Tara already. ~

When I was young, I used to think my Momma looked like Scarlett O'Hara.

Your dreams with Rhett Butler are in much better taste than my rare ones of that type, which are usually about somebody of a much less, well, refined nature.

I try to remember my own dreams and nightmares too...sometimes there's something important in them, although usually only tangentally related to what the dream appears to be about.

That must have been a pretty awesome compliment for your mom. I still picture her in that opening scene with all those boys/men around her when they are under that beautiful, big tree.

Well, while not detailed in that sense, my dream clearly is about men, or rather my search for one man. The jewels (which are up to my ankles, mind you) obviously are all the men I am searching through trying to find the "real" one. Then, of course, the next part is my hope that a dashing, debonair gentleman (because I’m all about gentlemen) will sweep me off my feet and proceed to ardently court me until I fall in love with him. Aw … : )

I rarely have "those" kind of dreams - I think it's because I think about it so much when I'm awake! :O
Interestingly, they just released a study
about that.

I find that dreams do have a lot to do with what's on your mind at the moment. When too many of them relate to work, it's a signal for a vacation !

Now that story on the study you linked to is interesting. As for "those kind of dreams," they have been known to cross my mind during waking hours from time to time.

Hmmm, clearly, I never wrote that. My computer must have burped again, or maybe just I dreamed that paragraph.

Well, I never wrote it, either, so I'm not sure what you're talking about!
Ohh! If only y'all knew how much I self-censor!
