Debbie Gibson and New Kids on the Block

This morning on television, I had a pre-teen flashback of the "we're a lot older now" variety.
Deborah (Debbie) Gibson and Jordan Knight (New Kids on the Block) were singing a duet! What a blast from the past! My very first tape (yes, I said "tape") was New Kids on the Block, with "The Right Stuff." Debbie Gibson followed shortly, with "Electric Youth."

I'm pretty sure my first purchased tapes were Weird Al and Great White... or maybe Anthrax.

I'm much older than you...but someplace I have a Debbie Gibson "Electric Youth" tape. I went thru a bubble-gum girl pop stage (perhaps brought on by too much of the GoGo's), in my late 20's.

I don't remember what my FIRST purchased tapes were, but I think that Debbie Gibson's "Only In My Dreams" was one of the first of my COMPACT DISC (even THAT word sounds archaic) collection. Sadly, b/c I tend to things for an interminable amount of time, I believe I still have that CD buried somewhere in my collection. In fact, I ripped that CD onto my computer a couple of years. Again, one of my more embarassing moments

Upon further review of her collection, it might have been "Only in My Dreams" that I had first because I remember singing that and "Shake Your Love" at my house.
Of course, my parents didn't notice this nearly as much as when, a couple of years later, I was walking around the house belting out, "Damn! I wish I was your lover!" by Sophie B. Hawkins. Great song.

Talk about a "Damn!" I just pulled up some of the lyrics:

"I give you something sweet each time you
Come inside my jungle book"

Holy cow, missed that reference as a teenager. Thankfully.
