September 11, 2001

* I decided I did want to say a couple of things.
Every time I see 9:11 on a clock, I remember.
And, it was worse for the first year or two after the attacks, but still, every time I hear the ring of the Fox News Alert, I'm waiting for the bottom of the earth to fall out again.

In lieu of a post today about the five year anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, I encourage each of you to spend a moment remembering the emotions you felt while
you heard and watched those terrible events unfold.
May God bless us all.

Every time I see 9:11 on a clock, I too remember, and wonder if what I'm about to do will have a bad outcome. I have stood on the top of the tower observation deck but most memorable was touching a corner of one of the towers and looking straight up in awe. I went to the Texas State cemetery in East Austin and touched a beam of one of the towers. Couldn't help feeling pissed.

I know what you mean about the Fox News alert thing. . . apprehensive until I find out what it is. I worry when friends or family are travelling on anniversaries of terrorist events, or when Osama has made a video-tape.

More than anything I get angry, particularly when playing the security game at the airport. Those...people...have given us paranoid world for the rest of our days and our children's: but what else can we do ?

Some thoughts:

Living in the NY area, we saw (and still see) the effects of 9/11 first-hand.

My wife and I had our first date 2 days earlier and spent our first afternoon together in that same area that was hit. It freaks me out to think that especially since she works near there.

We were out of the country until yesterday (intentionally staying an extra day to avoid flying on Sept 11) and seeing the news on CNN as well as local broadcasting in Greece was disturbing. It feels like yesterday yet it also feels so long ago. It's unsettling. And I, like many around here, don't feel any safer now.
